What does earthing do?
When the insulation inside an appliance fails, current reaches its metal casing. Without earthing that current goes to ground through a person the moment the casing is touched. Earthing gives the current a shorter path, along a conductor straight into the ground, and the protection cuts the circuit.
How is earthing done at a private house?
Several metal electrodes are driven into the ground in the yard, linked together and connected to the house's board by a dedicated conductor. From the board the earth conductor runs to every socket and to the heavy appliances: the boiler, the washing machine, the cooker. Labex chooses the spot from the yard and the supply.
Is earthing on its own enough?
No. Earthing works together with a residual current device: the device detects a leak and cuts the circuit before a person is hurt. An ordinary breaker does not do that, it only protects against overload and short circuit.
How can I tell the earthing is not working?
If you feel a current when touching the casing of the boiler or the washing machine, or a slight current at a tap, the earthing is missing or broken. Do not use that appliance and call an electrician.
About the service: earthing installation and checks. For private houses: electrician in Samgori and Lilo. Labex is an electrician in Tbilisi, on call 24 hours.
